The twins are born!

Hi everyone!

At 2:00 in the morning of May 6th I woke Tim up from a peaceful sleep by shouting from the bathroom. I was hemorraghing uncontrollably and felt that it might be time to call the doctor and head to the hospital.

Tim was amazing! He thought of everything, including the tarp that he placed on my seat so that I did not get anything on the cloth seats of his car. He was finally able to put to good use all the driving practice he has had over the years. We drove about 110 miles per hour and arrived at the hospital relatively quickly and safely.

Once arriving at the hospital they examined me and hooked me up to the monitors. Turns out I was dilated and having contractions. Unfortunately, I was not due until June 18th and the babies were not completely ready to arrive. I was also on blood thinner which meant we would have to wait until 8 a.m. to start the C-Section.

Megan Elizabeth was born at 8:53 a.m. and John Thomas followed just three minutes later at 8:56 a.m. They arrived just over 6 weeks prematurely.

After the doctors showed us our children they were rushed to the NICU where they received wonderful care. Here are the statistics for each baby.

Megan Elizabeth
Weight: 4 lbs. 5 oz
Length: 16.5 inches
Concerns: swallowed a great deal of blood (her placenta tore away from my body), small birth weight, needed to learn how to eat

John Thomas
Weight: 5 lbs 10 oz
Length: 18.5 in
Concerns: underdeveloped lungs, placed on breathing tube because he was struggling to breathe (lasted two days), given steroidal treatments (3) to strengthen lungs, after the tube was removed was placed on a nasal canula, needed to learn how to eat

Tim and I were able to hold Megan a few hours after she was born. We were not as lucky with John. Tim got to hold him on day 4 and I held him the next day.

For the next 16 days we spent the majority of our time at the hospital.
On May 22nd John and Megan were released and able to go home!

Thank god for modern technology and wonderful hospitals. You two look like the happiest parents on the planet! Your babies are adorable! Can't wait to hold them, kiss them and snuggle them!
